| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Millions |
Starting anew after the death of their mother, 9-year-old Anthony is ever practical, while his 7-year-old brother Damian uses imagination, fantasy, and faith to make sense of his confusing world. When a large suitcase full of money falls out of the sky onto Damian's playhouse made of cardboard boxes, it sets the boys on the adventure of a lifetime and an ethical rollercoaster that leads them to realize that true wealth has nothing to do with money.
Damian believes that the money is from God, as it appears to fall clear out the sky. He has a deep sense of responsibility with the money, desperately searching for "poor people" to give the money away to. When Damian learns the true origin of the money, he asks for guidance from the many saints he encounters in his imagination. All the while, the UK is about to undergo a change of currency from pounds to euros, so the money will soon be worthless unless they figure out how to convert it without looking suspicious.
In the midst of all of this there is tension brewing when Dad starts "fancying" a woman to whom Damian nonchalantly donates 1000 pounds for a charity in Africa for a well, while at school. When the woman finds the wad of money, the boys' dad is called. Anthony decides to lie and say that they stole it, and he "breaks down" crying, saying he did it because he misses his "mum". He later warns Damian to never make him have to do that again. In the end, Damian is visited by his mum who tells him not to worry about her, and that it is okay that their dad is finding love again.
