| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Spike of Bensonhurst |
Spike Fumo (Sasha Mitchell) lives in Bensonhurst, an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn. Spike boxes at a local gym with help from Baldo Cacetti (Ernest Borgnine), a mob boss and former boxer. Since Spike's mafia-tied father is in prison, Baldo takes Spike under his wing, securing fights and occasionally persuading a fighter to lose in the ring. After Spike meets and is smitten with Baldo's pretty daughter Angel (Maria Pitillo, “Godzilla“), Baldo's fatherly concern for Spike quickly evaporates. Baldo is hopeful when it comes to Angel and has promised his daughter to a local congresswoman's (Sylvia Miles) arrogant son. Angel is less enthusiastic about her father's grand plans as she is in love with Spike.
Spike soon receives an obvious sign that Baldo wants him to immediately leave Bensonhurst … or else. His boxer friend, Bandana (Rick Aviles, “Ghost”), graciously invites Spike to move into his Puerto Rican neighborhood. Away from his beloved Angel, Spike meets and falls for India (Talisa Soto), Bandana‘s gorgeous sister. As if having two girlfriends from two completely different neighborhoods is not enough, Spike soon discovers that both Angel and India are pregnant.
