| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Left Handed Gun |
This movie, based on a play by Gore Vidal, was directed by Arthur Penn (Bonnie and Clyde) in 1958.
William Bonney is hired as a cowboy by English cattle owner Tunstall who's driving his herd to Lincoln. Tunstall takes an interest in the young William who seems to have had a tough life until now. In Lincoln, Tunstall is murdered by sheriff Brady, Hill, Moon and Joe Grant who feared that Tunstall would have sold his herd at a low price. William Bonney decides to take the law in his own hands, kills Brady and Moon and comes back to his home town.
The Governor of New Mexico announces a general amnesty but William Bonney, known now as Billy The Kid, kills Hill during his friend Pat Garrett's wedding as well as Tunstall's last murderer. Garrett decides then to accept a job as Federal Marshall and manages to arrest William Bonney after having killed Charlie Boudre and Tom Folliard, the Kid's pals. Sentenced to death, Billy The Kid escapes and, once more, comes back to his home town, hunted by Pate Garrett.
