Two teens from Chicago named Artie Straus and Judd Steiner are living the good life. Very brilliant, attending one of the most prestigious schools in the country and to top it off, coming from a wealthy background. Straus and Steiner has the perfect life any average person will probably trade for. Petty crimes and vandalism gives the boys a sense of excitement. But their minor illegal acts doesn't prove to be thrilling enough as life still seem to be on the boring side.
Straus the initiator and extroverted one out of the two, feels that something exciting and thrill seeking needs to be done to fill the void in their already perfect lives. Stenier the more introvert guy tags along with Steiner and help his counterpart plan a kidnap for ransom that will challenge their smartness and a kidnapping that can be the test of time. The young men begin to randomly choose their potential victim-someone they already know and trust the boys enough to "hang out" with them for awhile. That person is 13-year-old Paulie Kessler the unfortunate young boy who ends up dead.
With no shame or remorse, the friends committed the perfect little kidnap which ultimately turned into murder. With police rounding up leads on dozens of suspects, Artie eagerly agreed to help the police solve the case though he is one half of the killer himself. Soon enough the boys admit to the murder and hired popular attorney Johnathan Wilke to take on the case. The public demand that the arrogant boys to be hanged but Wilkes wants them to seek a long prison term.
