| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Love Potion #9 |
Nerdy biochemist Paul Matthews is loser when it comes to girls. His friends tell him of a gypsy, Madame Ruth, and he gives in to the idea of visiting her for help. Madame Ruth sees zippo in Paul's romantic future and out of sympathy gives him a vial of love potion #8, which will make Paul irresistable to women when he talks, but hateful to other men. Being a scientist, Paul is disbelieving until his cat accidentally ingests some of the potion, meows, and attracts every feline of the opposite sex within hearing distance.
Paul and his partner, equally nerdy Diane Farrow, analyze the potion, find out why it works, test it on chimps and then use it on themselves. The doses lasts 4 hours. With it, Diane gets out of a traffic ticket and begins to blossom from geek to beauty with all that male attention...even from the Prince of England! Paul uses the potion to get back at a woman who had rejected him, then makes up for lost time getting laid by sorority girls. Their wildest fantasies have come true, but they realize it's not the real thing, which is what they discover they have with each other. Too bad an old boyfriend of Diane's gets his hands on the same potion and leads her to the altar first. Paul will have to crash the wedding with a more powerful potion, #9!
