| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Rose |
The Rose is a fictional account of legendary rock star Janis Joplin. The movie itself takes on a different name, Mary Rose Foster, a great musician, loved by many fans who gives one of the most sensational performaces during the late 60s. Foster best way of staying afloat is with her straightforward manager Rudge who demands that Foster get her act together.
But being levelhead does not last too long as most of her time besides performing is spent on alcohol and drugs while suffering from low self-esteem and insecurity. During most of her concerts, Foster can be seen slurling her words and getting drunk on stage in front millions of fans. Foster does beg that Rutger slightly give her a break as she is constantly is on tour and on demand half of the time.
The Rose also chronicles more of Foster's life other than drinking and drugs, as she explore other areas of self-destruction such as sleeping with dozens of men, living a life which seemingly will quickly hit rock bottom. But there seem to be a bit of hope when she meets a inexplicable man named Huston who might save Foster from harms way. But the only way Foster will live a clean and better life only if she let her friend in to what truly bothers her. Maybe Hudson can reach the saddened star before it is too late.
