Grimm is a New York city planner who had enough of the corruption and dishonesty in the city. His way of getting back revenge is planning a bank robbery with his girlfriend Phyllis Potter and longtime friend Loomis, both that does not mind assisting in Grimm's act. After the robbery, the three will head off to a much warmer climate and live their new life much happier with unlimited money. But first he must be under disguise and the perfect way to hide his identity is by wearing clown makeup and a clown suit which is covered in a oversized coat, with a hidden loaded gun and holding a bunch of balloons; right on a subway and no one on the train really pays him no mind.
Next Grimm sets up the robbery by bringing in hostages and personally inviting the police to surround the bank. The police chief Chief Rotzinger actually challenging him to his unlawful act because he knows chances are, Grimm will be caught. An eldery security guard at the bank asked what type of clown Grimm is and his response, "The crying on the inside, I guess". Grimm and his accomplices confidently takes big sum of cash and heads out the door and to their next stop, the airport.
But getting to the airport is difficult, not because of the possibility of getting caught by the law, it is more about the numerous run-ins with variety of interesting people. While taking a taxi, they meet a cabbie that speaks no english, a argumentive couple that is having a heated dispute, a rude bus driver and a kid with a guitar who takes his time on the bus, a mobster who sticks Grimm, Phyllis, Loomis and mistaken them as a bagmen. Last but not least, Chief Rotzinger is on the lookout for the three. Will Grimm and his friends finally make it to a safer place and escape from trouble for good? Or would they spend time in jail, as pulling off a successful plan ends in failure?
