| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Let It Ride |
Jay Trotter is a taxi driver who is addicted to gambling. Most of his time is spent at a horse track which can explains the reason why his estranged wife Pam, is irritated and angry over the fact that her gambler husband waste away his money during half of their marriage. Trotter makes a promise to Pam that he will never gamble again and would start his life with her on a fresh start. But it is easier said than done.
However it isn't too long after his best friend Looney spills the news about a conversation he heard between two horse owners, about a guarantee with a huge winning involving the first race next day. Not a suprise, Trotter gives in easily but according to him, it is not gambling, but a sure thing, that is more likely a simple bet between two friends. Trotter takes his chances on the horses the following day and lucky for him, he wins $700 in the first race.
This "sure thing" really was not a risk at gambling after all, and Trotter presses his luck even further with one win after another. With his newfound money, he is now the instant ladies man at the Jockey Club, but is envied by his old friends who think he became too big for his own good. His wife Pam realizes Trotter's different behavior and does not equate his happiness due to a winning streak in gambling. While at his highest, Jay decides to plan the biggest celebration party ever and take all his money to the horse race to really challenge his luck with a new horse.
