Review Summary and Plot Commentary about A Day At The Races
Judy Standish runs the Standish Sanitarium, previously owned by her father before his death. Lately she'd accumulated debt and is way behind in her money in keeping the stadium opened. Creditor J.D. Morgain is threatening to close down the stadium if he is not paid by the end of the month. But Standish has high hopes that one of her patients, a wealthy woman named wealthy Emily Updike will help her save the business from going into foreclosure.

Updike does agree to do her share, only she is treated by her old physician, Dr. Hackenbush. Tony, a assistant of Standish, writes a telegram to Hackenbush to quickly arrive to Updike's aid. What everyone does not realize is that the doctor is actually a veterinarian, only specializing in treating horses, but often dupe others into believing he is a human doctor and treats humans anyway, regardless his lack of skills in the medical field.

Standish is not completely sure whether or not Updike will hold end of her deal, but her boyfriend and singer Gil Stewart is willing to help out in some way, by buying a horse race to make money for Standish. But Standish isn't too thrill about his plan in which she describe as a "waste of money". Meanwhile Judy's financial manager, Whitmore, encourages Standish to sell her sanitarium to Morgan for five-thousand dollars, but rejects the idea when finding out Hackenbush finally comes into town. What Standish does not knows is that her manager and Whitmore is involved in a scheme and is planning to build a casino where Judy's business stands.
