| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Imaginary Heroes |
Matt Travis, a young competition swimmer, decides to commit suicide at home in his room. While his father Ben is unable to accept this event and, after having secretly left his job, spends his days on a bench in the city, his mother Sandy tries to catch up with Matt's brother, Tim. Tim can't bear anymore his father who keeps making comparisons between him and his dead brother. Furthermore, he doesn't know whether he really loves his girl-friend Steph and can't decide if he will have sex with her.
As everybody keeps telling him how sorry they are about Matt's death, Tim and his friend Kyle start to take drugs and, one night, they have a car accident. A few weeks later, after having taken alcoholic beverages and drugs, Tim and Kyle have sex together. When Sandy has to go to the hospital and is diagnosed with a bad lung infection, her husband Ben decides to stop mourning Matt's death and start a new life with his wife. Sandy decides then to tell Tim that he isn't Ben's son but the son of Kyle's father who ran away from home before he was born. Written and directed by Dan Harris in 2003.
