Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Still Breathing
A young woman named Rosalyn heads towards a bar named Formosa at night in Hollywood, CA and is mugged. Over in San Antonio, TX, a guy named Fletcher has a vision of this and shouts "No!" When he does, a car comes out and hits Rosalyn's mugger, who had pulled a gun on her. The mugger is knocked out, Rosalyn steals his cash and uses it to buy drinks for everyone at the bar before making an anonymous call to 911 about the accident. Back in Texas, Fletcher believes he's seen the girl he is destined for and thinks she is Chinese because he's also seen the name "Formosa" in his vision. All the men in Fletcher's family have met their wives from dreams/visions they've had, so Fletcher piles rocks in a cairn to commemorate his vision (it's all very Zen) and makes travel plans for Taiwan.

Rosalyn turns out to be a graphic artist turned con artist who is currently scamming a rich foreign athlete, Thomas, into buying a painting for her for thousands of dollars from an art gallery belonging to Philip, her partner in crime. She then makes Thomas believe she has AIDS by letting him see her bedroom, which is full of medications, brochures, oxygen and masks. He skips out and Rosalyn splits the profits of the art sale with Philip. Her friend Elaine then sets her up to meet a rich Texan at the Formosa. When Fletcher arrives in LA to find his flight to Taiwan has been delayed, he sees a tour book with the Formosa pictured and heads straight for it. Because Elaine hasn't told her the name of the Texan, Rosalyn mistakes Fletcher for her prey, and he doesn't tell her he recognizes her from his vision.

It turns out the jaded Rosalyn has been having dreams too, of herself as a little girl with a little boy who holds her hand, whispers to her and takes care of her when she hurts her knee. When she hurts her knee for real, Fletcher does exactly what the little boy in the dream does and she freaks a bit, but trying to stay in control of herself and the situation, she intends to go through with fleecing Fletcher and accompanies him home to San Antonio. Fletcher is actually a street performer, a puppeteer, and Rosalyn becomes more fascinated and charmed by his ways, his home, his stories and his grandmother Ida. At a party Fletcher throws to introduce Rosalyn to everybody, she realizes what he really is and then Fletcher tells her about how he dreamed of her.
