| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Blackbeard, the Pirate |
Doctor Edward Maynard wants to prove that Sir Henry Morgan, a former pirate now Governor of Jamaica, is in fact still working with his old friends. So, Maynard manages to get himself shanghaied by Blackbeard, the most renowned pirate of the Carribean islands. With Maynard, Edwina Mansfield, Henry Morgan's niece, is also made prisoner by Blackbeard. Edwina, who just stole Henry Morgan's treasure, gives a letter to Maynard proving that her uncle is still having relations with his former companions.
Blackbeard discovers Edwina's treasure and decides to bury it on a close island. Just when he finishes to do so, Blackbeard is attacked by Sir Henry Morgan who manages to arrest most of Blackbeard's men. Maynard and Edwina must also find a way to come back to England as Henry Morgan knows by now that Maynard could make him hanged by Her Majesty's Government. But, when they are on the boat that should carry them to England, Maynard and Edwina meet Blackbeard who just took the vessel by force. Blackbeard must now face the anger of his own men who are accusing him of having kept Edwina Mansfield's treasure for himself alone. The infamous pirate must lead his men to the island where the treasure is shelved but he is already thinking about a way to deceive them. Directed by Raoul Walsh in 1952.
