Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Battle Cry
A few months after Pearl Harbour, young men from the whole country engage in the American army. Danny Forrester, Andy Hookens, Marion Hotchkiss and some others must become marines in 10 weeks in a San Diego training camp under Major Sam Huxley and Sgt. Mac's supervisory control. The training is very hard but the future Marines manage though to spend their spare time in San Diego. Danny Forrester cheats on his fiancee Kathy with Mrs. Elaine Yarborough, the wife of an officer, Hotchkiss, the intellectual guy of the group, falls for Rae, a young woman he meets every sunday on the ferry-boat. He'll discover later that she works as a bar girl the rest of the week.

The regiment is finally sent to Wellington, New Zealand, where Major Huxley keeps training his men, imposing on them long route marches in the country. Andy Hookens falls for Pat Rogers, the widow of soldier, and, when she tells him she's pregnant, is even considering desertion. Sgt. Max and Pat manage to make him reconsider his decision. The regiment is then sent to Guadalcanal and to several other islands abandoned by the Japanese army with the mission to clean the battle fields. Major Huxley goes to the headquarters, angry that his now well-trained men get only mortifying missions. He obtains then for his regiment the task to conquer an island still occupied by the Japanese army but he is killed at the beginning of the battle. Based on the Leon Uris novel, this movie was directed by Raoul Walsh in 1954.
