Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Pennies from Heaven
Arthur Parker's love life is in a long standstill. Joan Parker's wife is dull, unromantic and sexually inhibited in bed, oppose to her husband's high sex drive. Arthur wants his wife to appreciate him as a husband and have passion for him, but she'd refuses to do so. On top of that, his sales business selling music sheets is not going nowhere as he need the money to keep things moving. Though Joan has the money (which she inherit from her father) husband's career, she does not gives him one penny, since she saving the money for later years.

Frustrated at his life, Arthur leaves on a business trip, leaving his wife behind and states that he will not come back home. On his trip, he meets with accordion player "the accordian man" and Eileen Everson, a teacher he ran across in a music store. Everson seems to be everything Joan is not; responsive, caring and understanding. It does not take too long until Arthur falls in love with the teacher, and immediately professes his love for her. Although flattered by his fondess for Everson, she kindly turns him down.

Soon enough Eileen turn to Arthur advances and the two have a love affair- Athur tells a little lie about his marriage, so things between him and Eileen does not go sour. After their fling, Arthur does return home to his wife, who were scared that he would leave her. Suprisingly Joan does her best to win her husband's affections, be whatever he wanted her to be before departing from their home, even lending money to him to help his sales business. But things is not over between Arthur and his mistress as he soon finds out she is pregnant and suddenly loses her teaching job. Eileen want a better life between her and Arthur, even becoming a streetwalker to make ends meet. She also get an abortion and from there, that where Eileen become miserable. Still trying to juggle his relationship between his wife and girlfriend, Arthur also get caught in the middle of being accused of a murder of a blind girl he only met a few times.
