Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Return of the Seven
A man staggers into a Mexican village and manages to say one word, "Hide", before he dies. While villagers stand around wondering what he meant, a horde of bandits on horseback sweeps in, shooting wildly. The horsemen round up the men of the village and take them away. One of them is Chico, the youngest member of the Magnificent Seven who defended the village years earlier.

The other two remaining members of the Seven, Chris and Vin, meet at a bullfight. Chris is a gun for hire still, Vin a bounty hunter. Chico's wife Petra asks for their help, adding that the men of two villages she passed on the way have also been abducted. Chris decides to go after the bandits and Vin is soon persuaded. Chris picks four others to make up another 'Seven' (with Chico). Two he finds in jail: the morose Frank, an old acquaintance, and Luis Delgado, a murderer glad to escape on the eve of execution. The others are Colbee, a womanizer tempted by the idea of three villages without husbands, and the young Manuel, eager for adventure.

In the ruined village where the men are being forced to rebuild the church, the priest argues with their captor Francisco Lorca about his ruthless methods. Lorca defends himself: he has formerly fought marauders and renegades, but many good men, including his sons, have died for the ungrateful villagers. The least they can do is build a memorial. When Chris and the others arrive to demand the release of Chico and other prisoners, Lorca retreats with his confederates, but Chris knows he will return.
