Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Stomp the Yard
In Los Angeles hundreds of people are gathered for an underground dance competition. There are 7 members in each squad including the female dancers. Dance battle begins and after a few minutes the winner is decided by the crowd. The Goon Squad takes the prize and the home team is shocked. After losing, they offers double or nothing by dropping more cash on the bucket but Duron turns down the challenge. DJ tries to convince his brother Duron to take the challenge. Duron don't want to take the challenge again but he don't want to leave his brother DJ behind so he agrees to take the challenge and this time the battle is personal and more energetic then before. The Goon Squad are again are declared the winners when Duron pulls a great move.

After the dance battle end the real battle begins, the Goon Squad is ambushed by the defeated squad. They took the money and kill Duron on the spot. DJ was arrested over the fight. DJ's mother sends him to her brother Nate, who is the head of maintenance at Truth University in Atlanta. There DJ is given a job as well as a scholarship to the university. At the university DJ see April and start a conversation and when her boyfriend see them talking, he walks up to them. April introduces them both and Grant warns DJ to stay away from his girl.

DJ meets his roommate Rich, he tells him about a gathering on campus. At the gathering DJ sees April again and goes to her almost getting into a fight with Grant. DJ gets another warning from Grant. April gets angry when she sees Grant dancing with another woman; he tries to explain that he was just dancing with her but April tells him that she still doesn't like it. Grant leaves and DJ tells April that she doesn't have to be treated like that. Grant sees DJ talking to April runs over and tells DJ to leave his girl alone almost have a fight but he was called back to the dance floor. DJ takes this opportunity and challenges Grant on the dance floor. The crowd is amazed by DJ to challenge one of the best dancers at Truth University. DJ shows his dance moves and the crowd goes wild. Grant knows that he can't defeat DJ's moves so he does not dance back. Zeke after being impressed by DJ's dance moves invites him to join their fraternity which DJ declines saying that he would rather battle and he insults Zeke. Sly also ask DJ to consider joining their fraternity.

DJ asks April out for lunch but she refuse by saying that she has to tutor. DJ finds out which subjects April tutors and joins those classes. DJ asks her again for dinner and she refuse again but he asks her to ask any question from the subject if he can answer they will go for dinner. DJ does answer and she accepts his date. DJ impresses April by telling her favorite color is green. At a dinner with Grant, April ask him about her favorite color he can't answer and asks her if this is about DJ. She doest answer him and he becomes angry. After a fight April leaves him.

Sly challenges DJ's new moves to his old ones. During the challenge DJ think that his solo dance will bring him victory but it is a team competition and his stunt cost them victory everyone was angry at him but he remembered his brother Duron and apologizes and also acknowledges the team. Sly agrees that DJ should teach the team some new moves.

April is the daughter of the universities Dean. When the Dean finds out about DJ's background the school Board decides to suspend him for the rest of the year. Dr. Palmer tells DJ that he can be reinstated in school if he stops seeing April which of course DJ refuses.

Finally April finds out the truth about her father and he fear to loss his daughter, he agree to reinstate DJ. Grant copies DJ's dance moves but DJ puts on Duron gloves which he was wearing when he danced and died. DJ tops every move of Grant. At the end of the film DJ pulls off the same move with Duron showed at the start of the film and the scene was captured to appear on the wall at Heritage Hall.
