This movie shows the political war between Scotland and England, for Scotland's fight to be independant of England.
It is mixed with a little comic relief from a crazy Irishman, and some romance. All in all, I feel this movie is definately a must see. It's movie that gives you many mixed feelings, but most feelings of ambition to fight for what you feel is right.

The movie is based on the events in the life of William Wallace and the bloody battle that ensued between Scotland and England. Wallace is a commoner who through personal loss and grief, becomes intricately involved in the fight to free Scotland and its people from the cruelty and destruction of the Plantagenet king, Edward I, or commonly known as Edward the LongShanks. The movie follows the events that led up to the famous Battle of Stirling Bridge and continues to the torture and subsequent decapitation of Wallace, with a few romantic interludes along the way. The supposed "affair" with the princess of Wales has never been proven, but adds to the overall excitement and drama of the film.

In this fictionalized account, William Wallace is a free Scottish commoner who's father and brother were killed by the King of England when he was a boy. Now he leads Scotland in a rebellion to free themselves from English tyrrany. Lots of kilts, men with long hair, blood and thunder, political intrigue. The english are all bad, the Scots are all good, and Our Hero wins the heart of the Princess from France. It all ends in a glorious tragedy as wallace is tortured and executed by the English, but this inspires Robert the Bruce to lead Scotland to freedom. Despite the consistent feel of authenticity, historical innacuracies abound in this movie. After watching and enjoying it, you would do well to look up the real history.
