| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Marathon Man |
A Columbia history grad student and distance runner suddenly learns his older brother (Roy Scheider) is a secret government operative when that brother dies a violent death. Eventually he runs afoul of a sadistic Nazi dentist, played by Olivier, who has come to New York from hiding in South America in search of diamonds taken from Jews in the death camps. William Goldman wrote the screenplay for this taut action thriller based on his novel, and John Schlesinger directed (1976).
