| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Superman |
At the moment of the death of the planet Krypton, a respected but controversial scientist sends his infant son on a rocket journey to Earth. The boy grows up on a farm in Kansas, where he learns wholesome American values and where he came from as he develops super-human powers. He becomes a reporter for the Daily Planet in Metropolis and moonlights as a costumed hero fighting for truth, justice and the American way. Meanwhile, an evil scientist sets in motion a plan to steal two nuclear missiles which he will use to aggrivate the San Andreas fault, so he can take over California. There's also a unique relationship between the Kryptonian (in his two separate identities, reporter and hero) and a hard-nosed female reporter. This film was a major contributor to the new generation of heroic adventure sci-fi/fantasy movies kicked off by "Star Wars," and was the first modern comics-based movie.
