A general that becomes a slave. A slave that becomes a gladiator. A gladiator that defies a ceaser. An excellent adrenaline pumping movie. Dazzling. Spectacular.

This film can be dismissed as a gorefest masquerading as a movie, but there actualy is a point to it all, and thats why it did so well at the Oscars, if you really want my opinion. General Maximus, a Roman hero, is sold into slavery after the emperor's son takes power. He ends up as a gladiator in the arena, and seeks revenge.
