Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Scandal
This is a flawed but decent British account of the Profumo sex scandal that brought down the Conservative government of Harold Macmillan in 1963. Joanne Whalley-Kilmer is gorgeous and poignant as 18-year-old Christine Keeler, whom bon vivant and social climber Stephen Ward (Hurt) uses to gain access to the rich and powerful. Bridget Fonda is suitably wicked and mercenery as gold-digger Mandy Rice-Davies, but the movie seems rather aimless for most of its 116 minutes. Not terribly naughty or intense.
--David Loftus, Resident Scholar
