| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Bounce |
On a snowy night, a brash, egocentric ad executive (Ben Affleck) switches an airline ticket with a man he meets in an airport bar. When the plane crashes, the executive is unexpectedly wracked with guilt, drinks heavily and finally seeks help in a recovery program that leads him to approach and secretly make amends to the widow (Gwenweth Paltrow), who's struggling to make ends meets, two small children and her own emotional problems. When the two unexpectedly fall in love, he's caught in a dilemma -- how can he tell the widow he was "responsible" for the death of her husband and still keep her love? The script has some problems (not to mention a few too many coincidences); but the direction is sure-footed and lets the story unfold on its own terms and performances are quite good and there's real chemistry between Affleck (who's never been better) and Paltrow, who were once linked in private life.
