| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Fargo |
In this dark comedy a struggling businessman hires two criminals to kidnap his wife, so he can get some of the ransom money his father-in-law will pay. Things get out of hand when one of the criminals kills three people. Now a policewoman starts an investigation as she runs into several weird small town people.

Since “Fargo” is a Coen Brothers production, expect very weird characters. Like superb character actor, Steve Buscemi in a rare “leading” role. Also, Joel Coen's wife, Frances McDormand, won 1996 Best Actress Oscar for her
performance as Brainerd, Minnesota's very pregnant Police Chief.
William H. Macy plays the wimpy sales manager of his wealthy father-in-law's car dealership and needs money now! So through an ex-con mechanic, he enlists Buscemi and his “associate” (Peter Stormare) to kidnap Macy's wife. On the way, Buscemi kills a police officer over registration forms, as well as two unfortunate witnesses.
What follows is some fancy detective work by McDormand who knows that “DLR” means “dealer tag,” but must also interpret such superb eyewitness descriptions as, “My guy wasn't circumcised.”
Following a cameo from Jose Feliciano, a riotous scene where Buscemi refuses to pay an airport attendant, and three more murders including one in a wood chipper, justice prevails. Driving to jail against a white sub-zero background, McDormand quietly ponders, “Six people killed! And for what? A little bit of money. And on such a beautiful day.”

The Coen brothers masterpiece is a very black comedy with some astonishing plottwists and very sadistics events. Do not expect to see a straight comedy, because it may even seem a bit gloomy at first. Frances McDormand makes history as the pregnant swedish american sheriff Marge Gunderson. Brilliant.
