Review Summary and Plot Commentary about A Man For All Seasons (1988 TV)
Directed by Fred Zinnemann and based upon Robert Bolt's prize-winning play, "A Man for All Seasons" shows the tratic relationship of Sir Thomas More (Paul Scofield) and King Henry VIII (Robert Shaw). Held high in the king's estimation for a long time, they face differences when the king enlists More's support as he prepares to break with the Pope and the Church over "irreconciliable diffences" due to Henry's insatiable love "lives"! More refuses and Henry brings charges in what surely is one of the greatest of all kangeroo courts in history. More is found guilty, as students of history well know, and is executed. Wendy Hiller plays Mrs. More and Orson Welles Cardinal Woolsey.
Superb cast, superb movie.

--Bill Hobbs, Resident Scholar
