Innocent, immature Southern belle Scarlett O'Hara is growing up in the Confederacy during the Civil War. She cares little about the war effort. However, problems eventually drag her into the grips of war. Scarlett learns how to fend for herself, and she becomes strong but selfish at the end of the war. The movie ends tragically when Scarlett's true love (though older than her) leaves her because Scarlett can't get her former lover out of her mind.

Ashley Wilkes is the love of Scarlett O'Hara's life, and she pursues him throughout this epic film, although he is married, and she herself marries three times. This story of unrequited love takes place with the American Civil War in the background, and shows Scarlett's descent into hardship and despondency as the war takes its toll. This film features great performances, one of the most noteable being made by Vivien Leigh, and to this day it is hard to imagine anyone else playing Scarlett. Clark Gable also leaves his mark as the enigmatic blockade runner Rhett Butler, Scarlett's third husband, and, as it transpires, the man she loves. All in all, a movie that must be seen, just for the experience.
