| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Pirates |
Roman Polanski is not generally known for his comedies, but in “Pirates” this
filmmaker shows that he knows the ropes of this genre. Starring a peg-legged Walter
Mathau as Captain Red, Director Polanski pulls no punches as he presents the world of the 17th
century pirate and all its bawdiness. Mathau, along with his young shipmate Cris
Campion, takes on a Spanish galleon loaded with Aztec gold, some of the most fearsome
Spanish sailors, and a beautful young lady who is to be forced into a marriage she'd rather
not see! The movie's a lot of fun, well-directed--a swashbuckler not to be missed!
