| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Last Samurai |
A Japanese gazillionaire businessman goes to Africa to find the truth about a samurai ancestor. He goes on safari with his apprentice, a borderline psycho Vietnam vet mercenary and his girlfriend, a wealthy Arab and his American wife, and a Vietam vet hunter. They run afoul of African rebels and there is action, mayhem, discussions of honor, personal revelations. An interesting premise with an interesting cast, but flaws and weaknesses in the filmmaking keep it from being very good. There are a couple of good Kendo and Bo staff fighting scenes, though.
