| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Little Women |
The beautifully written book Little Women by Louisa May Alcott was brought to life within film in 1994. This Civil War 19th century classic tale describes four sisters and their tribulations through destinies of life, growing up, and romance. The main character, Jo March, is a free-spirited adolescent of the times, holding the house together while their father is gone and her sister is ill. Through it all she wishes to be a famous writer, and her relationship with her best friend Laurie (a rich boy next door) thickens the plot to an interesting mix of friendship, denial, and love. If you are looking for a heartwarming romantic drama, this movie is sure to satisfy you.

This is a very moving portrayal of this
classic, coming of age story. It takes place in the late 1800's, a family comprised of a mother, sisters and the hardships they endure. Taking place in the beautiful scenery of the U.S. during wartime, the family endures poverty, a father gone to war, and finding meaning in their day to day difficulties. One of the sisters Meg, a writer, involves her sisters in acting out her plays in an upstairs attic. A young man is included in these secretive plays and falls in love individually with each sister. As time goes on, illness claims middle sister Beth, who contracts Scarlet fever and later dies from its effect. The love of the young man is eventually spurned until he marries the youngest of the "little women". Meg goes on to write of her trials and family secrets, and marries a professor who befriends her, and they all lived happily ever after!
