Dante Hicks has been called in for work on his day off to go work extra hours as a clerk at the local Quick Stop convience store. The boss couldn't of picked a more worse time to ask Dante to work on his day off. Dante is currently going through relationship problems with his girlfriend, and has just found out that his ex-girlfriend is getting married. The video sotre clerk next door, Randall, attempts to cheer Dante up with his vulgar and explicit references to everyone who come in and out of the Quick Stop. With the Jay and Silent Bob dealing dope outside the Quick Stop and the constant supply of annoying and strange customers, this film is an excellent comedy that refelcts the everyday troubles of the average hard working Americans in society.
"Clerks" is a classic low-budget comedy, shot in black and white. This has turned off some veiwers int he past. Either they think that black and white is a trait of the past, and should not be used in current flicks, or they just can't get over the black white and end up not enjoyig the movie. Once you get over the black and white concept, you will be rolling on the floor with laughter after viewing this hilarious comedy. This is Kevin Smith's first film, and one of his best. The plot situations and characters in "Clerks" are constantly referenced to in the next four Kevin Smith films. The fifth installment of the series, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, tells the tale of the two dope burnouts that are introduced in "Clerks", and appear in the next foru films. Kevin Smith's film direction and authoritation is original and unique. He is one of the few modern directors that create their own world withint heir films. kevin Smith never goes outside of the characters in "Clerks". Dante and Randall, or Jay and Silent Bob, ar ein every scene in the film. "Clerks" was first noticed at the Sundance Film Fetival, and went on to be hailed by critics everywhere as the best comedy of 1994. "Clerks", along with the rest of the series, have the ability to be so much more than just stupid comedies, because of the plots that are contained. Kevin Smith ignores that factor, and that is why "Clerks" is so great. It's like if you turned "Scarface" into a comedy. It would be a great (black) comedy. It seems as if Kevin Smith originally planned for his series to be award-winning dramas among the Oscar world. Kevin Smith is a non-sellout genius, and represents for his hometown county of New Jersey., in which every Kevin Smith film is taken place in. "Clerks" introduced us into the mind of Kevin Smith, and will go down in history as the greatest introduction tot he greatest comedy film series that has ever been created.

"Clerks", is Kevin Smith's first hilarious attempt at movie making, he really hit the groove first time here. It follows a bizzare day in the life of two best friends, who work as clerks in two adjoining stores. Their day is spent in deep satirical discussions, general goofing off, and closing the stores for such events as a rooftop hocky game, a wake, not to mention one of them closing the movie store to go rent a movie elsewhere. The film is centered around Dante Hicks, a clerk whose life seems to be getting progressivly worse, who has one of the worst days on record. Think Ferris Bueler, but with negative aspects. He struggles with his love life, his best friend Randall, who seems to be out to destroy him, not to mention the stoner twins, Jay and Silent Bob, who stop in to offer general advice every now and then. If you like to laugh, find this movie, you'll be hooked, and soon finding yourself renting Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Go For It!

Clerks is an indie film that looks at the life of Dante Hicks, and his dealings inside a New Jersey convienence store. Director Kevin Smith (Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma) has brought forth a film that shows the various adventures of those that work, inhabit, and purchase items from this store. The 1994 film contains sharp words and the viewer must pay close attention to what is said. Clerks is a gem.
