| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Repo Man |
One of the great cult hits of the late 20th century, "Repo Man" is the work of writer-director Alex Cox. It features Emilio Estevez as Otto, a rootless LA kid whose dippy parents gave all his college money to a televangelist, so he hires on with repo men (guys who steal cars with payments in arrears for the car dealers) -- principally Bud (Stanton), who teaches him the repo man trade and philosophy. Also figuring into the plot are rival Hispanic repo brothers, teen punk holdup artists, a cute female UFO conspiracy theorist, and a mysterious government agency in pursuit of a lunatic government scientist (an Asimov lookalike) driving a green 1964 Chevy Malibu that might just contain dead aliens in the trunk. The distinctively punk-y soundtrack includes Fear, Suicidal Tendencies, Black Flag, the Plugz, Burning Sensations (doing Jonathan Richman's immortal "Pablo Picasso"), and the Circle Jerks, who also appear briefly on camera. "Plate o' shrimp"! (1984, 92 minutes).
