| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Brother |
A most recent of Takeshi Kitano's films - Brother focuses on a yakuza (played by Kitano) fleeing from problems in Tokyo and escaping to LA. However in LA all the problems of a yakuza life are there - gang conflict and Yamamoto's (Kitano) and his crews extermination of them and so forth. It is the sort of film that is quite difficult to convey, like most other of Takeshi's films hence it is better to see it. Many scene's in the film raise numerous questions - such as why did that guy Kato just shoot himself? Well the answer is simple - he sacrificed himself for the well being of his boss Yamamoto in due course uniting the two Japanese gangs. If visual references such as these are understood rather than ridiculed than the film becomes much more, in both content and action - than it may appear to be at first sight. After all it is Japanese, it's by Takeshi and it is imbued with traditions of bushido, yakuza, comedy and a philosophy of life and death - again if its comprehended the plot becomes rather meaningful and upsetting.

BROTHER is a movie written and directed by japanese director Takeshi Kitano in 2000. Kitano is a yakuza who has lost his boss in a gang war in Tokyo. Sentenced to death by the local mobsters, he decides to fly to Los Angeles and meet his half-brother, a young drug dealer with no ambition. Soon Kitano forms a new family who will have to face the mexican and L.A. japanese gangs and at last the Mafia. Violent and superb.
