Review Summary and Plot Commentary about La Grande Illusion
LA GRANDE ILLUSION is a french movie directed in 1937 by Jean Renoir.

The period is WWI. Two french officers, Jean Gabin and Pierre Fresnay, a blue collar and an aristocrat, are captured by the german army and sent into a prisoner camp. After having tried several times to escape, they are finally jailed in a military fort under Erich Von Stroheim's surveillance. Pierre Fresnay and Von Stroheim develop a mutual friendly esteem while Jean Gabin is still thinking about a way to escape.

A masterpiece.
