| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Jungle Book |
The Jungle Book is a good humoured movie for young and old. The man character is a small child who was lost in the jungles of India, and lives among the animals. He is raised by wolves and is eventually taken in by a leopard. The leopard tries to get the boy back to a village where he will be among his own kind. The main thing stopping the boy is a mean tiger who wishes to end his life.

One day Bagheera the black panther (voiced by Cabot) discovers an infant in a wrecked river boat and takes him to the wolves, who raise the boy. Ten years later, Mowgli (Reitherman) is happy running with the wolves, but Bagheera learns the great tiger Shere Kahn (Sanders) is in the neighborhood and will surely kill the boy because of his hatred of humans. The panther decides to guide Mowgli to the nearest "man tribe," but the boy would rather hang out with the neat animal friends he meets along the way, especially the fun-loving Baloo the Bear (Harris). Before Mowgli accedes to his destiny, he is hypnotized and nearly eaten by Kaa the python (Holloway), boogies with King Louie the orangutan (Prima), tries to run with the elephants, and joins a lugubrious barbershop quartet of vultures. VERY loosely based on Rudyard Kipling's classic (it retains almost nothing beyond the character names), this delightful 1967 film was the last movie personally overseen by Walt Disney.

Man-cub Mowgli (Ratherman) was very happy with his serrogate wolf family. But when word reaches that human hating tiger Share Kahn (Sanders)is back in the jungle, panther Bageerah (Cabot) is told to escort Mowgli to the neerest man village. Mowgli is stubborn and runs off and meets "Jungle Bum" Baloo the Bear (Harris). Baloo and Bageerah soon have to rescue Mowgli from often hilarious perils: uptight Col. Hathi (J. Pat O'mally) and his elephant brigade; ourangutan King Louie (Prima), who is under the impression that Mowgli knows how to make fire; and Kaa (Halloway), the python with a taste for humans and an aching back (What a long ache!).
