| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Ruling Class |
Written for the screen and adapted from his own play by Peter Barnes and directed by Peter Medak, THE RULING CLASS has been theatrically released in 1972.
When Harry Andrews accidentally hangs himself, Peter -JACK- O'Toole becomes the 14th Earl of Gurney. Voluntarily secluded in Dr. Herder's clinic for years, Jack is paranoid and schizophrenic and, furthermore, believes he's Jesus. His uncle William Mervyn wants Jack to get married as soon as possible, procreate the 15th Earl of Gurney and return to the asylum.
Iconoclastic, funny at times. Great one-man-show of Peter O'Toole who was nominated for the Oscar.
