Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Thelma and Louise
Louise is a waitress in an Arkansas fast food joint whose boyfriend Jimmy is always on the road doing music. Thelma is a housewife married to Darryl, who only wants to watch football on TV while his wife keeps to the kitchen. The two friends go out on the road for a short vacation, but a stranger nearly rapes Thelma, Louise shoots him dead, and now the pair are on the run from the law. They make a run for Mexico in their 1966 Thunderbird convertible, encountering a young buck (Pitt in a very early role) who heats up Thelma, and talking by phone to a thoughtful police officer (Keitel) who tries to get them to give themselves up. This controversial 1991 hit directed by Ridley Scott after he did "Blade Runner" and "Black Rain" sort of retells the story of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as women. Challenging and exciting.
--David Loftus, Resident Scholar

When Thelma and Louise set off for a girls weekend away, they never dreamed of what would happen next. We follow them through an attempted rape, murder, car chases and love interests until we reach an unexpected end to it all.
--Megan Westley, Resident Scholar

Thelma & Louise is a tragi-comedy action film and loose satire about two women friends who embark on an adventure which in the early stages turns on an unexpected event. What follows is a fast-paced, glib pursuit as they attempt to evade responsibility for the accidental murder of a drunk.
Two substantial romantic interests inter-weave with the story adding pathos to the characters - who are both --emeshed and liberated-- by their ordeals. [I love this film. It made me laugh, think and ended with a numbing sense of reality. a WOW finish!]

--Warrior Girl, Resident Scholar

Two friends go away on holiday, but when the unexpected happens, they are forced to go on the run to escape from police. They are chased across the states in a T- bird convertible,by the police, but if you want to know what happens, you'll have to watch it yourself!
--Megan W., Resident Scholar
