| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Pee-wee's Big Adventure |
Pee Wee Herman lives an idylic life in the suburbs with his dog Speck. His favorite possession is his red bicycle. His bike is so cool that even his rich neighbor Francis envies him. One day while out doing a little shopping, Pee Wee is horrified to discover that his bike has been stolen. Unable to get much assistance from his friends or the police, Pee Wee turns to a psychic to find out where his bike is. Pee Wee embarks on a cross country trek to the basement of the Alamo to recover his bike and makes a host of new friends on the way including a waitress, a hobo, a convict, and motorcycle gang.

Paul Reubens, aka the bow-tied funnyman Pee-Wee Herman, scores big in this hilarious film. When Pee-Wee's bike gets stolen, he embarks on a cross-country trip to get it back. Along the way, there are some crazy scenes, like when a Claymation dinosaur eats his bike. Also, while he hitchhikes, he is picked up by a driver and as they drive along, the highway begins to twist and turn more frequently than Peggy Sue's hair.

Pee Wee Herman, the childlike persona of Paul Reubens, stars in this hilarious movie. Pee Wee's bike is stolen and Pee Wee meets many odd characters while trying to recover it, including a ghostly truck driver, and an escaped felon who was convicted for tearing off one of those "Do Not Remove" lables from the bottom of a matress. This movie not only marks Pee Wee's feature film debut, but also for the director, Tim Burton (Batman, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas).
