Celie is treated very unfairly,almost as a toy. She is not wanted by her husband and her father molested her. She admires Shug and loves her in a sexual way.

The Color Purple teaches its audience how to endure and be strong. Celie finds her intelligence, voice, and finally the ability to exsist by relying on herself. With her alcoholic violent husband trying to make her nothing more then slave, she overcomes her adversary and rises above he diminished self image.
